  • About the coalition

    The Romanian Respiratory Coalition, which joined the IRC in 2023, is led by the Romanian Society of Pneumology in partnership with patient organisations and professional and scientific associations. It aims to ensure the prevention and control of respiratory diseases, environmental protection and public education.

    Coalition partners have delivered several successful initiatives, including:

    • Annual World Asthma Day and World COPD Day campaigns with free spirometry testing, reaching millions
    • World Sleep Day 2025 — scientific sessions and workshops on sleep apnoea and respiratory pathology in women
    • World Tuberculosis Day 2025 — press conference highlighting that while TB mortality has fallen by 69%, Romania still has the highest incidence in the EU

    The coalition’s work continues, with ongoing project including:

    • Casa Pneumologilor Români — a comprehensive educational platform for pulmonologists, family doctors and patients, including a patient navigation service and a national map of over 400 pulmonologists
    • Asthma and Severe Asthma Prevalence National Study — a multi-stage study to estimate asthma prevalence in adults and inform national health strategies
    • Asthma and Severe Asthma National Registry and Registry of Patients with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis — dedicated patient registries enabling accurate monitoring and consolidated data for targeted interventions
