  • About the coalition

The Spanish Respiratory Coalition joined the IRC in 2024, led by SEPAR.

The coalition is currently building its membership and developing its national projects, aligned with Spain’s Public Health Strategy 2022, which prioritises the prevention of disease by tackling behavioural and socio-environmental risk factors, notably those contributing to lung cancer and chronic respiratory conditions such as COPD.

A key focus for the coalition is the social determinants of health, a programme of work that began in 2025 and aims to deepen understanding of how social and environmental factors shape respiratory outcomes in Spain, with a view to influencing national policy.

The coalition has also identified regional inequalities in access to healthcare and resources as a priority, alongside the underuse of spirometry in primary care despite its widespread availability, and the need for stronger engagement with environmental and urban planning issues.
