  • About the coalition

The Austrian Respiratory Coalition (ARC) joined the IRC in 2022 as a task force of the Austrian Society of Pneumology (ÖGP), representing an association of lung experts, patient organisations, health policy stakeholders and the pharmaceutical industry.

The central goals of the coalition are:

    • Prevention of respiratory and lung diseases through the establishment of prevention programmes
    • Reducing social inequalities and strengthening patients’ rights
    • Improving access to early diagnosis and best therapy
    • Prioritising research on measures to promote lung health

To achieve these goals, projects and campaigns are being launched to increase awareness of lung health in Austrian society and politics.

Among its ongoing projects, the ARC is conducting a standardised testing campaign for genetic lung diseases, which encompasses familial pulmonary hypertension and familial pulmonary fibrosis. This project is managed and coordinated by Priv.-Doz. Dr. David Lang, PhD and Dr. Vasile Foris, MD, PhD, MSc in close collaboration with patient organisations (PH-Austria, Lungenfibrose Forum Austria, Austrian Lung Union).
