The French coalition was founded in 2021 as the “Collective of the General Estates for Respiratory Health”. In February 2024, its 26 members united under a single banner, the Collectif Droit à Respirer (“Right to Breathe”).

This association pursues the same objectives: to promote respiratory health as a public health priority and to secure a comprehensive national respiratory health plan. To achieve these goals, the coalition aims to:

• Bring together and involve all stakeholders from the respiratory health community
• Raise awareness among policy and decision-makers and undertake the necessary advocacy actions to obtain concrete, bold measures to better prevent, diagnose and treat respiratory disease
• Organise annual General Estates of Respiratory Health in a high-level institutional setting

A key achievement of the French coalition includes the launch of the publicly accessible Respiratory Health Observatory in 2022; this tool annually tracks and rates government action across six pillars of respiratory health. It is now in its third edition and serves as the evidence basis for national policy advocacy.

Building on the success of observatory, the coalition is developing an ambitious National Respiratory Health Plan, designed as a multi-year roadmap for 2026 to 2030.
