  • About the coalition

The Respiratory Coalition of Ireland was established in 2024, bringing together advocacy groups and stakeholders from across the respiratory health community. By uniting as one respiratory group rather than working individually, the coalition aims to have greater leverage in changing policy and securing government funding for respiratory health.

The coalition’s goals are to achieve equitable, accessible and affordable respiratory healthcare in Ireland, with a strong emphasis on health promotion, prevention and raising public awareness of the importance of respiratory health.

A key initiative is the forthcoming Health of the Nation Report 2026, a comprehensive overview of the burden of respiratory disease in Ireland. The report will serve as a foundation to increase focus and funding for respiratory health at the national level.

Ireland has already made notable progress in respiratory care, including the Lung Health Check pilot and the establishment of national clinical programmes, chronic disease management programmes, and dedicated spirometry pathways. The coalition is continuing to build these achievements.
