  • About the coalition

    The Consulta della Pneumologia was founded in 2017 and is coordinated by SIP-IRS and AIPO ITS/ETS, bringing together the most influential scientific societies, patient associations, and  national organizations across Italy. Since joining the IRC in 2023, the coalition has acted as a  strategic institutional hub. 

    Its purpose is to provide a united, authoritative voice for the 6.1 million people affected by  respiratory diseases in Italy – a burden that contributes to 146,000 deaths annually and an  estimated societal economic cost of €80.2 billion. 

    The coalition in numbers:

    • 15 patient associations and 8 scientific societies 
    • 17,000 registered members across the network
    • 54,000 active digital users on our platforms 
    • 6 major projects completed in 2025 with 6 corporate partners
    • Prevention of respiratory diseases
    • Access to care and actions to reduce inequalities
    • Prioritisation of research, data and information
    • Improvement of healthcare and healthcare delivery

    Key activities and milestones include:

    • RESPIRA – a health advocacy initiative to develop health policies ensuring better access to treatments and services for patients
    • REMARE INSIEME – a spirometry roadshow providing free diagnostic spirometry to the public
    • Webinars – gathering proposals on respiratory health themes, addressed to patients
    • Digital campaign – building the coalition’s community through a dedicated website and social channels
    • Promoting respiratory health through prevention programmes
    • Sharing ideas and projects in the field of respiratory diseases

  • Active areas of work
    1. Institutional advocacy (RESPIRA): Targeting politicians and health authorities to reform  the Italian National Health System through evidence-based Policy Papers.
    2. Proactive screening (REMaRe INSIEME): Targeting the general population through a  mobile outreach program providing free diagnostic spirometry in public squares. 
    3. Health literacy (webinar series): A cycle of free digital workshops translating clinical  research into accessible knowledge for patients and caregivers.
